Firefly on the Big Screen
Was a big fan of the one season wonder series Firefly.
Now, it's going to be a movie (Serenity) in September. The end of the trailer is awesome.

Blackfive is reporting that Firefly is coming to the big screen. This does my heart good, why Fox killed this show is beyond me, but I have a feeling that it was due to the distinct lack of animals attacking things. 'Course Fox has a history of canceli... [Read More]

I reckon you know that Chicago is one of the cities on the sneak-preview list? Lucky SOB. :)

Someone please explain to me why this show was cancelled. And why the person who made that decision was not fired and held up to public ridicule.

it was on fox and fox has never had much truck for sci-fi on it's networks for some reason.
odd considering 20th Centrury Fox's greatest contribution to sci-fi was backing Lucas to do 'Star Wars', but there y'go.
chris carter's 'x-files' was a notable exception. that's because he was very insistant about presenting everything to fox in terms of 'paranormal'.
and it's a real shame too. to say 'firefly' was unique is an understatement. it was basicly a western set in outer space and it looked like whedon was drawing from the reconstruction period for stories.

Hope you got your ticket already, B-5. All showings of the sneak preview, in all ten cities, sold out by 1:30 today. They were only announced this morning -- good sign for the movie.

Final proof (as if I needed it) that you are too cool for words, B5. Firefly was a marvelous show, the movie will be great, and Fox should fry in Hell for ever canceling it.

I first downloaded the Firefly episodes off the Internet.
When I found out the show was canceled, I was shocked. When I found out you can buy the entire 4 disk DVD set off of amazon for 35$, I erased my copies and went and got it.
Now I never see my DVDs. I loan them out to anyone who has an interest in sci-fi, the feedback has been 100% positive. I'm trying to cultivate an interest in the show again. I hope the movie goes gangbusters, because that would mean that there would be more made.
It sure beats whining to the network about it.

"Define Interesting."
"The Oh, God, oh, God. We are all going to die."
B-5, Thanks for my next sig line. Let's hope that after a successful movie run. Another network gave a new shot at TV fame.
Hey, it happened to JAG.

Based solely on that trailer I went out to Amazon and purchased the DVDs. I almost woke up my entire family yesterday A.M.. I love it when a laugh attack catched me off-guard, but that was completely unexpected. What I want to know was how come I never heard about this show when it was on?

I have no idea Timmer - the acting is good, the effects good, the plotlines great...your guess is as good as any.

ErikZ, my DVDs are always being loaned out too. I've gained many converts!

I'm wondering if the inherent humor of River kicking serious ass in the preview is lost on people who don't know the show? I can imagine seeing the trailer cold and thinking that it's some cheesy-ass chop-socky flick (good special effects, but somehow Matrix-ripoff in story).
I KNOW this is not true, but that's because I've seen the show. Am I the only one who thought this?
(The kicker at the very end however is awesome, and _very_ true to the series :) , as is the "define interesting" bit...)
