The 86th Combat Support Hospital
Via Soldiers' Angels, I've been in contact with Specialist Gracie Jean-Pierre who is the Patient Laison for the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad (from Ft. Stewart, GA). SPC Jean-Pierre is requesting some help in getting comfort items for patients of the hospital.
...Things at the CSH have been very busy. The elections were Sunday, thank God, no serious incidents happened. We a miracle happened though, a Baby was born! An Iraqi civilian had her baby at our hospital. It was truly wonderful because it was our first baby born here and it was on the day of the first free elections in Iraq. His father was voting for the first time when he was born. The birth really puts it into prospective what we are accomplishing here. We are giving a Nation its earned and just freedoms back and for that I am truly proud.
Thank you so much in you interest in helping our troops! We are running low on a few items and would greatly appreciate the helping hand...
Side note: After being linked by the Daily Kos a few times in the last few weeks, I've gotten some really uplifting spiteful emails about how, if the Bush Administration was doing it's job, then these folks wouldn't need extra supplies. The answer to that is simple. Soldiers and Marines don't need these supplies to survive, but it's nice to have a pillow when you're wounded and on a stretcher in the cargo hold of a C141...
Specialist Jean-Pierre is requesting the following items to make the patients at the 86th Combat Hospital more comfortable during their stay or their transport to Landstuhl.
For the Patients:
Eye covers (I can't remember what they are called. You where them to sleep when the lights are on to shield your eyes from the light. A lot of our patients share rooms and its hard for them to sleep during the day when there roommates are up)
Feminine wash (Summers Eve - sensitive and regular) for our female patients.
Robes for those soldiers who can not wear clothing
Comfortable slippers (patients are mostly men so larger sizes are appreciated)
Womens underwear: sizes 5,6,7,8
Sweat Tops and Bottoms: sizes SM, MED, LG
Lounge Pants: SM, MED, LG
Shower shoes: SM,MED,LG (sturdy ones would be nice. Our patients walk around the hospital in them)
Body Wash
Powder (Shower to Shower and/or Baby Powder)
Feminine Cleansing wipes
Female Deodorant
Mouth wash
Socks (female sizes:6,7,8,9)
Boxer briefs for the males
Undershirts-SM, MED, LG
Hairbrushes
Body lotion
Ponytail holders for the hair. Preferable black please.
We have children that are also admitted to our hospital. We would greatly appreciate some clothes for the children. For example: boys and girls underwear, kids sweat top, bottoms and slippers. There ages vary from 1 yrs to 12 yrs old.
Travel size pillows for our MED EVAC patients would be very nice. They're usually very uncomfortable on those long flights to Germany.
Black back packs. When our patients arrive, they usually have nothing to put there clothes and the items we give them in so the back packs would come in handy.
For the Medics, Nurses, and Doctors:
Laundry Detergent (powder)
Dryer sheets
Powdered Bleach
Cocoa Butter lotion (the water here is very hard!)
Finger nail clippers and nail filers
Nail polish remover
Trail Mix, sun flower seeds and chex mix (We eat and run so a lot of snacking is done)
So, if you can, send any of the items listed above to Specialist Gracie Jean-Pierre at this address:
