John Forbes Kerry's Daughters - The MTV Video
Instapundit points to the Recycler's blog where the video of John Forbes Kerry's daughters are booed at the MTV Music Video Awards.
BTW, I tried watching the VMAs last night. Is it just me, or were these the absolute worst VMAs of all time?
ZZZzzzzzzzzzz....
UPDATE: AntiJohnKerry points to a similar happening when Hillary Clinton was booed at a 911 benefit...and then VH1 edited the boos into cheers. According to Media Research Center, 20/20's John Stossel featured it and has a link to the actual Stossel video (real player).

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference John Forbes Kerry's Daughters - The MTV Video:

Honestly, I heard as many "woo"s there as I heard "boo"s. I didn't really pay attention (I had to watch the VMAs for work, and it was MISERABLE), but I'd bet that the Bush twins' video got a similar reaction. There was no overwhelming negativity to anyone.
Although I thought that Hoobastank could have used some negativity. I mean, did no one give the guy a monitor? Earphones? Anything?

Actually...I didn't bother with MTV. Watched the History Channel with a 1hr story on Hamilton/Burr. If you think this years election or 2000's was nasty, check up on how ugly it got during the 1800 election.
The more things change...the more they stay the same.

woo's?
Usually, when someone likes what you are doing, they applaud...loudly. With cheers and maybe woos, but you hear the applause.
I didn't hear what you heard. It wasn't overwhelming or deafening, but it sure as hell wasn't supportive.

Rock is dead on MTV all you have to do is look at the videos that were up for best Rock video. HOly christ what a bunch of sissy boy songs, that isn't rock and roll. Last night was another indication of how the Seattle grunge scene did more to kill of rock and roll then anything that the hip hop genre could have done.
The two best performances last night were Jet (don't even get me started on the two bands that followed Jet) and the Xtina/Nelly duet. Jet rocked and Xtina/Nelly sang well (if it was lip synching they fooled my dumbass) and had a really tightly chereographed dance number.

Not that it really matters, but the audience was filled with, what, nineteen-year-olds and rock stars? They weren't golf clapping, they were "woo"-ing, like you do at a rock concert. When, y'know, you like stuff, and you put your hands in the air and go "woo!". Sometimes you go "woo-hoo!". And some people booed, and some people wooed, and some people clapped, and I'm pretty sure I saw Whitney Houston doing a line of coke off of one of P. Diddy's medallions. It's not the DNC. Or the RNC, for that matter.

Cate - I understand the art of woo (really, an old guy like me does get it), but I just think you are reaching a bit with this.
Posted by: Blackfive | August 30, 2004 at 03:13 PM
that was definately not "wooing". We don't say "woo" like that.
Though I'd say just as many people were cheering as were booing after the "vote for my father" comment.

Yeah...right "woo". If you're gonna spread B.S. please allow us to get our hip-waders on first.
From a CNN interview from Vanessa Kerry (straight from the horses mouth):
"Speaking to CNN afterward, Vanessa Kerry said the booing had "scared" her, but added, "We're fighting for something so strongly, I will go up there and hear the whole arena boo if it means connecting with one person."

Also from the same CNN interview -
"...the daughters of President Bush and his Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry were met by loud cheers and jeers. It was unclear exactly whom the cheers and the boos were meant for or why."
"MTV cameras showed some audience members apparently giving the women a standing ovation, but the mixture of boos and cheers continued."
"The boos seemed to die down and cheers took their place toward the end of the segment, when the Kerry daughters took back the floor and encouraged people to support victims of Hurricane Charley, which devastated portions of Florida earlier this month."
But come on y'all - it's the VMAs. MTV, y'all. Rock the Vote notwithstanding, when MTV begins to heavily influence the political process, I really am moving to Canada.

Ahhh...Cate, you were the one who stated-
"There was no overwhelming negativity to
anyone." And you then implied they were "wooing"
not booing. Sorry that's just B.S. pure
and simple. You just don't like being
called on it apparently.
Did the Kerry daughters get booed for
dragging a political message into what was
essentially "party-time" for the attendees?
Yes, otherwise why would Vanessa state that the the booing "scared" her? I'd call that negative.
Did the Bush twins get booed..probably
yes and for the same reason, I stated above.

I didn't say there was wooing NOT booing - I said there was wooing IN ADDITION to booing. No overwhelming negativity, 'cause the woos and the boos were about equal. And I'd like to repeat my earlier point that it's the freaking VMAs, people.
