Marine Letter to Al Qaeda
This letter is written by a veteran of the 3/4 Marines and was forwarded to me via a Sergeant Major. Whatever you want to say about Marine Corporal Hassoun's service, currently held in Iraq, he's still a US Marine.
To the terrorists currently operating in Iraq,I see that you have captured a U. S. Marine, and that you plan to cut off his head if your demands are not met. Big mistake. Before you carry out your threat I suggest you read up on Marine Corps history. The Japanese tried the same thing on Makin Island and in a few other places during World War Two, and came to regret it. Go ahead and read about what then happened to the mighty Imperial Army on Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. They paid full price for what they did, and you will too.
You look at America and you see a soft target, and to a large extent you are right. Our country is filled with a lot of spoiled people who drive BMWs, sip decaf lattes and watch ridiculous reality TV shows. They are for the most part decent, hard working citizens, but they are soft. When you cut off Nick Berg's head those people gasped, and you got the media coverage you sought, and then those people went back to their lives. This time it is different. We also have a warrior culture in this country, and they are called Marines. It is a brotherhood forged in the fire of many wars, and the bond between us is stronger than blood. While it is true that this country has produced nitwits like Michael Moore, Howard Dean and Jane Fonda who can be easily manipulated by your gruesome tactics, we have also produced men like Jason Dunham, Brian Chontosh and Joseph Perez. If you don't recognize those names you should. They are all Marines who distinguished themselves fighting to liberate Iraq, and there will be many more just like them coming for you.
Before the current politically correct climate enveloped our culture one of the recruiting slogans of our band of brothers was "The Marine Corps Builds Men." You will soon find out just how true that is. You, on the other hand, are nothing but a bunch of women. If you were men you would show your faces, and take us on in a fair fight. Instead, you are cowards who hide behind masks and decapitate helpless victims. If you truly represented the interest of the Iraqi people you would not be ambushing those who come to your country to repair your power plants, or sabotage the oil pipelines which fuel the Iraqi economy. Your agenda is hate, plain and simple.
When you raise that sword over your head I want you to remember one thing. Corporal Wassef Ali Hassoun is not alone as he kneels before you. Every Marine who has ever worn the uniform is there with him, and when you strike him you are striking all of us. If you think the Marines were tough on you when they were cleaning out Fallujah a few weeks ago you haven't seen anything yet. If you want to know what it feels like to have the Wrath of God called down upon you then go ahead and do it. We are not Turkish truck drivers, or Pakistani laborers, or independent contractors hoping to find work in your country. We are the United States Marines, and we will be coming for you.
Thanks,
David C.

I live a pretty easy life, but I am daily aware of how that life depends --and has always depended-- on the American warrior culture. You guys have my deep admiration, respect and support.
I live in a place full of soft lefty intelligentia who are so full of hubris that they imagine they could solve a barbarism like Muslim terrorists by having conversations with them. Any 12-year-old knows that a bully is only brought down one way.

Nicely put. If I could be prouder of our troops in Iraq, I would be.
My only objection is to the part where he called al Qaeda "a bunch of women"; I know a couple of female Marines who, being stronger and braver than any of those bastards, would take offense at that.
Posted by: Cate | June 28, 2004 at 01:37 PM
Think of the insult, not aimed at western men, but middle easterners, and you'll see that it's appropriate for the intended audience.

You know, the Islamist scum have taken on a
lot more than they realize.
Americans are generally seen as myopic, more
concerned with creature comforts and personal
profit than anything else.
But some americans have very long memories
and sufficiently long reach.
Remember al Sadr's men who were mysteriously
found with slit throats in the back alleys
of Kufa and Najaf?
For the next decade or so, a lot of islamists
are going to be discovered in the same condition
in the back alleys of Faluja and Baghdad.

I know the Marines take care of their own. They have and always will. I don't know how they will do it, but creativity, coupled with incentive, and leavened by pure dogged determination, has stood the Marines well in the past. There is no reason to think it won't work today. The terrorists / Islamists have fully "let lose the (bull)dogs of war". I wonder if the RoE will be revisited because of this. Or if a "blind eye" will be turned toward the Marines as they do their part to remove the cancer which runs rampant in the streets of the middle east.

Great letter, but I just get a bad feeling about this captured Marine, when I think of Lebanon (where he was born) and dead Marines, and how it was handled last time.
I hope we take a different course of action this time, but I fear that we will not. The gloves are still on, and I am not holding my breath on them coming off, though I wish they would.

Nice letter. It may be aimed at Middle Easterners but it's still sad that a Western man had to use the 'women' as if it was a derogatory thing to be. Most women I know don't decapitate people after all. ^_~

Yes Daniel, Beirut wasn't and isn't forgotten. And never will be. It will be avenged and already has been for some small part. Same enemy - different time.
I bet the Rangers haven't forgotten Mogadishu either. Long memories indeed!
Will be interesting to see what Recon's attitude is when the cowards do their real "brave" work. Al Qaeda - What pansies! Those wussies couldn't whip their way out of a wet paper sack! They are so afraid they can't even show their faces. They tremble when a small child walks by them. Come out and fight like real men you pantywaists. Of course we all know they have no manhood or the guts to face a real warrior without hiding behind their women and children. Real brave warriors of Allah. Yeah right! What a joke to real warriors they are. Bunch of feet kissing camel dung shovelers!
And yes, Zarqawi and Al Qaeda still wear women's pantyhose. I mean that in a kindler gentler in touch with my feminine side sort of way! ;-)

Excellent letter--it sums up what I, a wife of a Marine currently deployed to Iraq, have known all along. We protect our own. Marines have the spirit of all Marines who have passed before in them. No other service can produce men and women like the Corps does. We will not allow cowardly terrorists sully the name of the United States Marine Corps without proper retrobution. If they thought Fallujah was an inconvenience, they have not seen anything. And I guarantee if the politicians would get out of the way and world opinion be damned, Iraq would look a whole lot different than it currently does thanks to the Marines. Semper Fidelis

We've been saying he was headed to Lebanon for days. We've also been guessing that he thought that the Al Qaeda folks were helping him.
He's still an American citizen and a Marine. Free him and he'll be charged with desertion. That's better than Al Qaeda will give him...
Posted by: Blackfive | June 30, 2004 at 07:26 AM
Melissa,
Yes they are still gung ho about getting his captors. They are still "gung ho" about getting Corporal Hassoun away from his captors. There are a couple of reasons why.
1. We Marines view him as a brother. Perhaps one that made a stupid mistake, but that isn't important. We are not about to pick and choose whom we will rescue.
2. It is up to the courts to mete out punishment to him IF he is a deserter. No one else has that authority.
Posted by: Cameron | July 01, 2004 at 02:04 PM
Soft? Yes, some of our asses are soft. But calling the terrorists nothing but women? Ha. That's far too great a compliment, implying that they have faster reflexes, greater endurance, and a higher level of pain tolerance than men. And with all due respect to members of all our Armed Forces, I'll take on any Marine who wants to scrap with me about it. I spent last weekend getting tossed around on sharp rocks by grinning Marines and smiled all the way through myself - I was one of 10 women training with a group of more than 60 men, and I didn't quit until I was too hurt to stand. My soft, sweet (bruised) ass... we know he wasn't talking about American women - it was a culturally pointed insult directed at the foolish Islamis-fascists who think there's nothing weaker than the poor creatures who bore them.

The young soldiers fighting in Iraq, unfortunately are educational products of tainted history books. First, they're a generation having grown up thinking that men and women are deserving of equal status and so they modify their behavior to accomodate that social misplacement. Their enemy doesn't see women in the same light - he's not evil because of it, he just sees it differently. The U.S. and Great Britain are fighting with weapons of immense advantage over their enemy and he's still not defeated - nor will he be. When some of these U.S. soldiers are 60 years old they'll realize that their uncle (SAM) had some problems - one of them namely, an addiction to presumption - presuming that the whole world needs to see things the way he does - and if it means pretending to protect the world when the world doesn't ask for it just to get his feet inside the door, your uncle will put his big foot right on in the door anyhow, smiling with all kinds of justifications and excuses, some flat out lies.

Greetings:
I do not have a blog but have a website. I want to send some materials to the Marines in Iraq. They consist of the following.
Targets:
(25yds) with black center
Shoot-n- see targets (show whe the bullet impacts the target)
Gun Magazines:
the New Gun Week
Handguns Magazine
Guns and Ammo
American Rifleman
Posters:
Dogs with ammunition around their necks
Posters. ex. A squirrel holding an acorn but the poster reads: squirrel with handgrenade. Any Questions?
I am quite sure someone will go through the materials to check if they are acceptable.
Thank you for your consideration.
