Facing Reality in Iraq
Jonathan Foreman (who's a writer for the NY Post) has an article at the National Review about the events around the Shia uprising and the tragedy in Fallujah - about facing realities.
...The Marines seem to have been preparing to retake the city in the bloody days leading up to the ambush and its gruesome aftermath. This was a task made necessary by the bizarre and costly U.S. decision — made when the 82d Airborne Division was still in charge of the area — to entrust the security of Fallujah to the Iraqi police.There's a lot more including an interesting comparison of our occupation policy in Afghanistan with the one in Iraq and why one is working while the other isn't. It's a thoughtful (and relatively short) piece.Of all the cities in Iraq, Fallujah should have been the very last one handed over to local security forces...
