Operation Iraqi Freedom's Band of Brothers

Posted By Blackfive

I received this information about a new History Channel Series from the Chief of the Army Reserve-

Anyone watching the History Channel this past weekend may have seen some new Army material showing Soldiers just back from Iraq and Afghanistan discussing their service to the country, within the context of promotions for Band of Brothers. Promotional segments of one, two, five, and ten minutes draw parallels between Soldiers serving our country today and the men of Easy Company who fought in WW II, depicted in the Band of Brothers mini-series due to start airing on the History Channel April 11.

Soldiers featured in the program include four from 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 1SG Charles Haley, CPT Kevin Williams, SFC David Ainslie, and PFC Cameron Sharp, one Soldier from 10th Mountain
Division, SGT Bret Blalock, and one Soldier from the 3rd Infantry Division, SPC Richard Jacob. In the program, they share their experiences from their recent overseas tours and candidly discuss what Army
service has meant to them. Their experiences are paralleled with those of the men of Easy Company, tying history to present-day Army service based on enduring values.

The show piece of this new material is a half-hour program (actually 22 minutes of footage with breaks) that will start airing March 22, on the History Channel at 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM (Eastern Standard Time). Times we know are as follows:

March 22, History Channel, 1:30 and 7:30 PM
March 28, History Channel, 8 AM
April 5, History Channel, 8 AM and 2 PM
April 10, History Channel, 11 PM
April 3, History International Channel, 2:30 PM
April 10, History International Channel, 7:30 PM

Also on Biography Channel, at times to be determined, and on all US Air flights during the month of April.

The Band of Brothers mini-series, based on the book by Stephen Ambrose and produced by Stephen Spielberg and Tom Hanks, will air three times on the History Channel, and Army will be closely associated with each airing of the ten episodes, with the new Army influencer spots running adjacent to each program. The association will be extended by the Soldiers doing lead-in and episode recaps before and after most airings. Dates for the mini-series airing are:

April 11-19, consecutive evenings, at 9 PM Eastern (10 PM on April 18)
June 26-28, one episode per week, at 9 PM Eastern (10 PM on June 14)
    June 19, marathon, episodes 1-5, 4 PM
    June 20, marathon, episodes 6-10, 2:30 PM
BTW, I read Band of Brothers long ago and used to give copies as presents to my sergeants. I have the Band of Brothers mini series and watch it every once in awhile. Episode 2 (D-Day) is one of my favorites. The scene where Winters pulls each paratrooper up from the ground (while looking them in the eye) to board the aircraft and parachute behind enemy lines into France chokes me up every time.

I am glad that the History Channel is showing parallels between the Greatest Generation and our generation. For all of the protest marches and left-wing rhetoric, there are millions of Americans who are serving this nation. They represent another Great Generation.

Mission: To protect and promote the reputation and dignity of America's Warriors.
