Iraq Tactical and Political Roundup

First, expect a ruling soon on the Case for LTC West. The Army judge will decide if a court-martial proceeding will occur or not.

Next, even Leon Panetta, the former Chief of Staff of Bill Clinton's White House, had a few words to say about Hillary's comments to the troops. Via Washington Times:

"Obviously, policy differences will be presented, but I think those battles need to be fought here in this country," Mr. Panetta said. "I think when it comes to visiting our troops, it's important to let them know that the country is supporting their mission. Both parties need to be clearer about that message."
I am not sure how much clearer the Republican Party can be about supporting the troops. The Democrats, however, need a lot of work in that area....This picture of a frustrated Hillary in Iraq via Strange Cosmos.

Via Fox: Our boys in Iraq managed to nab another bunch of terrorists and a few caches of weapons. That's the good news. Then, comes this tidbit:

In Baghdad, relatives of U.S. troops visiting Iraq pressed their agenda to meet with leaders of the coalition authority, hoping to voice opposition to the U.S.-led occupation. They will also visit hospitals, schools and U.S. military bases as part of the trip sponsored by Global Exchange and the International Occupation Watch Center.
Questions for the 10 relatives visiting Iraq: Do your military sons and daughters want you in Iraq? Hoping to voice opposition? Are you trying to get your kids killed?

This one is via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

In Baiji, 25 miles north of Tikrit, soldiers from the 173rd Airborne were ambushed during a patrol Monday by attackers lined up along both sides of a road. The assailants fired at least eight rocket-propelled grenades and directed small-arms fire at the soldiers, who were patrolling in Humvees, said Lt. Col. William MacDonald, a senior spokesman for the task force. None of the grenades hit their mark, and no U.S. soldiers were killed, MacDonald said. There was no word on enemy casualties.

Several miles west of Kirkuk, an AH-64 Apache helicopter crew killed three men who ignored an order to drop their automatic weapons and turned their guns toward the chopper late Monday, MacDonald said.

Taking on an Apache can be a life-changing event...These guys might be candidates for the Iraqi version of the Darwin Awards.
