Freedom of Speech

Posted By Blackfive • [November 12, 2003]

I don't how many of you read Evangelical Outpost regularly. If you don't, you should. JP Carter posts a well written synopsis of what the Lefty Bloggers posted on Veterans Day. It is not encouraging.

Here is a taste from lefty James Benjamin:

...Hence the return of the infrastructure necessary to make reinstating the draft an "attractive" option for our politicians. I'd say it'll be very attractive to the Bushies if Bush is selected to a second term, and they have the opportunity to continue their radical decimation of anything decent that the US might once have stood for.

What to do? Free your mind. Knowledge is power. Educate yourself about alternatives to violence. The COMD is a great place to start. Network. Check out other peace groups in your area or region. If you're a male of draft age learn what is involved in becoming a conscientious objector. Nonviolence.org, The War Resisters League , the CCCO, among others have resources available for preparing your case for conscientious objector status.

JP Carter, while executing a really nice take down, also does a good job of supporting James Benjamin's right to free speech. He uses eloquence and tact that I just can't find in myself for such a response. Since the right of free speech also extends to JP and I, I'll share a few words.

1. The All Volunteer Force wants nothing to do with a draft. I know most Soldiers (and Marines like JP) would rather have someone in the foxhole with them that weren't conscripted. Charlie Rangle's draft would destroy our Armed Forces.

2. So James Benjamin, on Veterans Day, chooses to blog about protests and draft dodging. While he has the right to do so, I find it disgraceful.

3. James Benjamin is an ASSHOLE.
